The Ice Hockey Championship: where to park a car?

8. 5. 2024 3 min. čtení diskuze (0) Aktuality Tipy a rady

In addition to Prague, Ostrava will soon turn into the hockey centre of the world. The local Vítkovice hall will host teams from the United States, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Germany. Locals will have to be patient during the championships and many fans will travel to Ostrava to watch ice hockey by car. But what is the best place to park in Ostrava during the Ice Hockey Championship?

Organizers in Ostrava are eagerly awaiting how the hockey championship will turn out. However, as a precaution, they ask all fans not to drive directly to the arena. It is expected that there will be numerous traffic jams around the Ostravar Arena during the championship. It may happen that in extreme cases fans may miss the start of the match due to the less than ideal traffic situation.

Ostravar Arena

"We would like to ask all hockey fans to use public transport as much as possible, which will run at shorter intervals on match days, and not to try to drive to the arena, where queues can be expected," explained Vlastimil Bijota, head of the transport department of the Ostrava organising committee.

The Slovak car onslaught is expected

The risk of increased traffic complications during the Championships in Ostrava is really considerable. Moreover, the city is not used to extra heavy traffic. It will be a huge test for the third largest city in the Czech Republic, which will be tested especially by the Slovaks. A large number of them will come to Ostrava by car.

Parking and Terminal Dubina

The first tip for convenient and stress-free parking is the parking area near the Dubina Terminal. Although it is still quite far from the hall, this parking has several advantages in practice. It is located on the south-western edge of the city and it is not expected that significant traffic jams will form here. Moreover, there is an Albert store right next to the parking area, so every motorist will have the opportunity to refuel before heading to the stadium.

The journey from the Dubina Terminal area to the stadium is not difficult. There is a tram stop right next to the parking area. These will be running in increased numbers especially during the championship. In addition, there is a direct tram line from Terminal Dubina to the arena with the number 12. The route of about 5 kilometres can be completed in a solid 13 minutes.

Thousands of parking spaces in the Avion Shopping Park Ostrava

The second tip of our editorial team is parking in OC Avion Shopping Park Ostrava, which is located about 2 kilometres from the stadium. The huge advantage of this tip is the capacity. According to calculations, it can accommodate about 4 thousand cars. The shopping centre is specifically located at Rudná 3114/114 and most fans can walk from there directly to the stadium. In addition, there are many other supermarkets with parking lots in the vicinity. Therefore, if this shopping centre is full in terms of parking spaces, there are other options for fans to react relatively quickly and flexibly.

If fans would like to get directly from the OC Avion Shopping Park Ostrava to the hall by tram, they also have the option. Every few minutes, trams numbered 2 and 7 run from the Zábřeh, OC stop and will take 4-5 minutes to get to the vicinity of the arena.
